Mary Isabelle (Maiden) Redmond was born on July 14, 1928 in Kansas City, Missouri, the youngest of 5 children born to Harry Emery Maiden and Amanda May (Weeks) Maiden. Mary is predeceased by her husband, Paul C. Redmond (died October 23, 2012), brothers Elmo Maiden and Clinton Maiden, and sisters, Audrey Arvin and Donna Strachocki. Mary is survived by her sons Mark J.Redmond (Lisa Sanfratello), John P. Redmond (Renee Patitucci), grandchildren Matthew Foreman (Janelle), Alkhemiya Redmond, J Redmond, great grandchildren Olivia Foreman, Miles Foreman, and nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews across the United States. Family was uppermost in Mary’s heart and life as evidenced by her participation in and many hostings of the famous and long running Weeks family reunions each summer.
Mary and Paul married in April 22, 1951. She worked alongside Paul in his ministry as a pastor in the Disciples of Christ Church in Cumberland and Woodward, IA; Omaha, NE; Mankato, MN; Ojai, Santa Paula, Fullerton, and El Monte, CA. They retired to Oakhurst, California where they joined and continued in service to the Oakhurst Community Church. They also welcomed numerous cats and a loyal dog called Queenie into their household, on whom Mary showered her love and attention.
Mary was a born artist, dating from her childhood experiences at her father’s sign shop, to creating illustrations for a science professor at Kansas University, to her own oil, pastel and acrylic work, and to gorgeous flower and food arrangements. Hospitality was of great importance to Mary, and many family members and friends enjoyed the blessings of her gift for it. She loved poetry and beautiful music.
Mary spent the last 4 ½ years of her life in New York, and frequently remarked how surprised and delighted she was to see all the lush and varied trees in Westchester County. Her love and knowledge of nature has been passed on to her sons as a lasting legacy.
May God bless her with everlasting rest and peace. A memorial service will be held on Monday August 25, 2025 at 7pm at the Trinity Church, 2111 Boston Road, Larchmont, N.Y. 10538
