Born on November 3, 1936, to John and Mary Baka. Mary married Theodore Schmahai in 1957.
Mary was a long-time employee of the SUMA (Yonkers) Federal Credit Union and a parishioner at St. Michaels Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yonkers, where she was a member of the church choir for many years.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Theodore Schmahai, who died in 1976, and her son, Peter J. Schmahai, who died in 2020.
Mary is survived by her son Theodore J. Schmahai, and his partner Patricia Hickey, of Rhode Island, her dear daughter-in-law Sunilda Schmahai of Yonkers, NY and her granddaughters Yelidad Diaz Morillo and Rosemeri Diaz Morillo, and great grandchildren Sanaya Lugo and Caleb Lugo. Mary is also survived by her nieces and nephew, Irene Korin, Orysia Korin, Roman Korin, and their families.
Visitation will be Wednesday, November 11, 2026, at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home, Yonkers NY from 3 PM to 7 PM. Panakyda service will be at 6:30 PM. Funeral Service will be at St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Yonkers, NY on Thursday, November 12, 2026, at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hastings-on-Hudson NY.
