He was born on April 6, 1923, to Catherine and James Terry. He graduated from Sacred Heart Grade School and Saunders High School in Yonkers, and was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church his entire life. On January 28, 1945, he married Regina Newbrand while on a 12-day leave from his Coast Guard ship. Their love and their marriage lasted 75 years, and they were recently recognized in Catholic New York as the archdiocese’s 3rd-longest-married couple. His “bride,” as he always called her, survives. He is also survived by his daughter Kay and son-in-law Phil Amicone of Yonkers; grandsons Joseph Amicone of Saratoga Springs, NY; Brendan Amicone (Kristan) of Basking Ridge, NJ; and Matthew Amicone (Caren) of Yonkers. His 6 great-grandchildren—Julia, Ryan, Caroline, Colin, Connor and Madelyn—were his greatest source of joy for the last 16 years. They loved their Pop. He was predeceased by three sons: Maurice (Maury), Joseph and Robert. Maurice served in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII as a signalman on the USS Belfast in the south Pacific. After the war he was employed briefly by Alexander Smith Carpet Mills and then by IBM, where he worked until his retirement. Mo loved sports, both as a participant and as a fan. A skilled athlete, he played several sports in his youth and coached his son’s baseball teams as Maury was growing up. For many years he umpired and refereed local softball and basketball games. He remained a faithful fan of the baseball Giants, even after they left New York, and had a love/hate relationship with the NY Giants football team. He took up golf in the latter half of his life, playing (and winning some trophies) in the Yonkers Senior League for decades. He reluctantly gave up the sport when he was 90. He loved to talk (and argue) sports and was a great and accomplished kidder, who could take a ribbing as good as he could give one. A truly good and generous man and a wonderful example, he earned the respect of many and the love and gratitude of his family. We will miss him.
