

Michael Courtien, a longtime Yonkers resident, died on Thursday March 16, 2017 at age 65 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 20, 1951 to Arthur J. and Mary O’Rourke Courtien in Brooklyn where he was raised and educated. He graduated from Nazareth High School where he made lifelong friends. Michael was a plumber at C & B Plumbing in Pelham Manor for many years until his retirement, and was a member of the Plumber’s and Steamfitters Local 21. Michael was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church and was active in the RCIA Program there. He enjoyed cooking and was renowned for his Sunday Brunch, but his main interest was his family. On October 2, 1976, he married his loving wife and soul mate, Kathleen Rorke, at Holy Innocents Church in Brooklyn. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his six children, Elizabeth and her husband Francisco Valencia, Carolyn, James, Matthew, Kelly and Annie and her fiancé Michael Heitmann. Also surviving are five brothers, and their spouses John & Joanne, Frank & Isabel, Arthur & Roseanne, Joseph & Doreen and David & Darlene Courtien, and two sisters, Eileen Courtien, Maryanne & Ken Percy, and sister-in-law Jane. He is also survived by his two granddaughters, Abigail and Bethany. Michael was predeceased by a brother, James Courtien. He was a loving uncle, cousin and great friend to all that knew him, and will be greatly missed. Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Monday & Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9pm. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Church on Wednesday March 22nd at 10am. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
