Born on April 20, 1947 in Havana, Cuba to Caridad Fernandez and Orlando Llosa, Miriam came to the United States in 1962 at the age of fourteen, accompanied by her sister Caridad as part of Operation Pedro Pan, a secret exodus that brought over 14,000 unaccompanied Cuban children to the United States in the wake of the Cuban Revolution.
Miriam lived a life defined by love, kindness, hard work and devotion to her family. She spent the majority of her career working as the principal's secretary at Lincoln High School in the Yonkers Public School System, where she made many cherished, lifelong friendships. She enjoyed cooking, music, dancing, collecting Lladros, traveling, and being surrounded by her family and loved ones.
She is survived by her beloved husband of fifty-eight years, Paulino; her children, Paulino and his wife Paula, Alejandro and his wife Tessa, and Antonio and his wife Marta; and her seven cherished grandchildren, Gabriela, Daniela, Amanda, Antonino, Beatriz, Alessandra, and Matteo.
A funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 5, 2026 at Annunciation Catholic Church, located at 470 Westchester Avenue in Crestwood, New York. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hastings on Hudson, N.Y.
