Preceded in death by her father, Frank Castello, mother, Emma Straccini Castello, brothers, Aldo (Victoria) and Robert (Linda) Castello, and niece, Anna Renee Castello. She is survived by cousin, Tullio Straccini (Lina), nephews David (Bree) and Michael Castello (Sheri), nieces Noreen Moresco, Caryl Holthouse (Jerry), Joanne Bergstrom (Mick), Lauri Castello (Judy), Deborah Castello, and devoted friend, Oliver Ancruem.
Norma was born July 29, 1927 in the Bronx, New York. She graduated from Hunter College in 1949, where she distinguished herself in the study of Italian and was awarded the Dr. G. M. Mortati Prize for excellence. Following her graduation, Norma devoted more than four decades to education, teaching generations of children in New York City public schools throughout the Bronx, including P.S. 57.
Visiting Hours will be held at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home, 168 Park Ave, Yonkers, NY 10703 on Friday September 25, 2026, from 8:45 am to 9:45 am.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 627 E 187th St, New York, NY 10458 on Friday September 25, 2026, from 10:45 am to 11:45 am.
Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 5 Bradhurst Ave, Hawthorne, NY 10532.
