Frank Sinatra’s classic hit I Did It My Way could have been about the life of one of his biggest fans, Patricia J. Quaglieri, who passed away on April 4, 2022, at the age of 86.
Before she left this earth, Patricia was surrounded by some of her children and grandchildren who proudly described her as a ‘badass’ and an ‘inspiration’. Looking back at her life, it’s easy to see why and why she will be so missed.
Born on December 22, 1935 to John Martin and Sophie Vaszko, she graduated from Hastings High School in 1953 and married Frank Iannucci on July 13, 1957. She became a cherished mother to Mark Iannucci, Kevin Iannucci, Christopher Iannucci, and Lisa Iannucci (Brinkley). After Frank’s death on March 29, 1972, she became the hardest-working single mom. She took on roles in the PTA, played catch with her sports-loving sons (Kevin described her as ‘the best damn catcher a little league pitcher could ask for,’) and coached Lisa’s softball team.
Always wanting better in her life, she decided to return to college and complete her bachelor’s degree at Mercy College while raising kids and working full-time at such companies as Mount Vernon Hospital.
When she wasn’t working, on the field with the kids, or studying, you could find her playing bingo, at the casino, or watching her die-hard favorite teams, the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Yankees or her favorite golfer, Tiger Woods. Her love of baking cookies, especially at Christmastime her favorite holiday, is a legacy that is second to none
You can put all of the facts of work and education in an obituary, but what’s missing is how much she was there for her family. After the unexpected death of her daughter’s husband, Jeff in 1999, Patricia sacrificed her own life to help raise Lisa’s three children and support her through her battle years later with breast cancer. She was always a phone call away for anyone who needed it and did whatever she could to help her children. Her family meant everything to her and all she wanted was more for them than she ever had for herself. She sacrificed so much to give her children love and memories and a step up in the world.
And this independent, hard-working, fierce woman did it her way.
Patricia remarried Ralph Quaglieri in 1978 who predeceased her in 2001.She was also predeceased by her sister Ruth Elaine Nicol in 2001. She is survived by a brother, John Vaszko, her son Mark and daughter-in-law JeanMarie Iannucci of Croton-on-Hudson, New York, son Kevin Iannucci of Nutley, New Jersey, son Christopher Iannucci of New City, New York; daughter Lisa (Iannucci) Brinkley of Poughkeepsie, New York; six grandchildren: Nicole, Travis and Samantha Brinkley, Erica (Aiello) and son-in-law Matt Aiello, Rebecca Iannucci, and Steven Casucci. She is a great-grandmother to Joseph Aiello and Annabelle Aiello.
