
Peter "Beef" DeSantis, a dedicated son, brother and uncle passed peacefully on January 7th. He was predeceased by his beloved parents Pasquale and Aurora DeSantis, sister Angelina (Pat) Ciriello and brother Vittorio "Geet" (Mary) DeSantis.Pete, who was beloved by his family and friends, is survived by his three sisters Lillian (Joseph) Pierorazio; Ida (Carmine) Lippolis and Loretta (Albert) Martinello. Peter was born in 1921 and was educated in the Yonkers Public Schools. He became a painter's apprentice and was employed by the Glenwood Garden Apartments.
As all young men of the time with a love for their country, he enlisted in the US Army and went off to war in 1942. Assigned to the US Army 31st Infantry Dixie Division he was involved in four major campaigns in New Guinea and the Southern Philippines. Upon discharge, he attained the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the Purple Heart for his service in this arena. Returning home to his native Yonkers he continued his craft as a painter with Glenwood Gardens. Later, he was employed by the Yonkers Board of Education and the City of Yonkers as a master painter where he retired in 1990.Uncle Pete, as he was affectionately known to all in his family is also survived by 35 nephews, nieces and their spouses, as well as 35 grand nephews and nieces.
Visiting hours will be at the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. & 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Church on Saturday, January 11th at 10:00 a.m. Interment Mt. Hope Cemetery.
