Rich was born at St. John’s Hospital on August 21, 1978. He lived in Yonkers until he was five years old when the family moved to Yorktown Heights. He participated in sports in the Yorktown Athletic Club and was an alter server at St. Patrick’s Church. He went through the Yorktown school district and graduated from Yorktown High School in 1996.
Rich received his associates degree from Westchester Community College and followed his lifelong dream to become a police officer in 2007. Upon graduating the academy, he was assigned to the New Rochelle Police Department. In 2009 he joined the 4th Precinct at the Yonkers Police Department. Rich was a true public servant who totally enjoyed his job.
He was a loving son and brother, devoted uncle, and loyal friend. He is survived by his parents, Michael and Donna Marie Meyers of Eastchester; his older brother and family, Michael and Lisa Meyers and their children, Michael, Cecelia Rose, and Christopher Richard Meyers of Tuckahoe; as well as his younger sister, Lisa and her children, Leo Samuel and Mable Imogene Hicks of Asheville, North Carolina.
The family will receive visitors at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home, 168 Park Avenue, Yonkers on Friday, November 5, 2021, from 3 - 8 P.M.. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 6 at 9:30 A.M. at The Parish of Immaculate Conception, 53 Winter Hill Road, Tuckahoe, New York.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations to the Yonkers Police Benevolent Association would be deeply appreciated. A committal service will occur Saturday, November 6, 2021 from 11:15 AM to 11:30 AM at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 10 W Stevens Ave, Hawthorne, New York 10532.
