Born in the Bronx, New York, to Sarah and Vincent Orgera, he was raised on Sedgwick Avenue, graduating from DeWitt Clinton High School and later attending Mercy College.
He served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Kankakee, where he received a commendation for his participation in the Cuban Missile Crisis quarantine. He went on to work as a machinist, a lineman, and as a computer technician for New York Telephone and Verizon.
A dedicated family man, he is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; his sons, Scott and Dean (Elizabeth); his loving grandchildren, Henry and Abigail; and his brother, Douglas.
His caring presence and wry sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Richard’s name to one of three charities he held close to his heart: Wounded Warrior Project, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
