

Robert E. Wilt, a lifelong Yonkers resident, died on Wednesday October 18, 2017 at Calvary Hospital. He was 93 years old. He was born on June 7, 1924 to Henry and Mary Ford Wilt in Yonkers where he was raised and educated. Mr. Wilt was a customer service representative for the U.S. Postal Service in Yonkers and Mt. Vernon for over thirty years until his retirement. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Marine Corp. during World War II from 1942 to 1945 and achieved the rank of Corporal. He was a marine paratrooper, served in Iwo Jima and was wounded twice, eventually receiving a Purple Heart. Mr. Wilt was a member and past commander of the Disabled American Veterans Association. He was also a longtime parishioner of Christ the King Church. On June 26, 1948, he married his loving wife, Dorothy Drovie in St. Mary’s Church in Yonkers. Mrs. Wilt survives and lives in Yonkers. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Karen Brown and her husband, Michael of Timath, Co., Joanne Duke and her husband, John of Alpharetta, Ga. and Mary Armstrong and her husband, Rodney of Manchester, Md., one son, Robert H. Wilt and his wife, Debra of Hastings on Hudson and one sister, Dorothy Wrona of New Milford, Ct. He is also survived by nine grandchildren. Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Friday 4-8pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Christ the King Church on Saturday October 21st at 10am. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
