March 2, 1950 – September 29, 2026
Robert Anthony Young, affectionately known as Bobby, was born on March 2, 1950, in Manhattan, New York, to Johnnie and Beatrice Young.
Bobby proudly served in the United States Army. Throughout his working years, he spent many years at Popular Electronics magazine as an associate editor and later worked as a mechanic.
Anyone who knew Bobby knew exactly where they stood with him. He pulled no punches, always spoke his mind, and was simply fun to be around. He had a personality all his own and left people with plenty of stories to tell.
Bobby loved music and he loved to bake. His cheesecakes and pound cakes were favorites, but his oatmeal cookies were famous among those lucky enough to have them. His recipes were important enough to be written down and saved, and his recipe book will remain with his family as a special piece of him that can be passed down and enjoyed for years to come.
Bobby was a fighter. Those who knew him knew that he fought until the very end, facing life's challenges with the same strength and determination that were so much a part of who he was.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie and Beatrice Young, and his beloved son, Robert Young Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter in law, Tanya Young; his grandson, Tashawn Young; his great grandson, Zayn Young; along with family, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by knowing Bobby.
Bobby's family will honor his life by doing what he would have wanted most: gathering together, sharing memories, telling stories, laughing, and remembering a life well lived.
He will be laid to rest with military honors at Calverton National Cemetery.
