Despite being a Dr. Evil look alike, Roz De La Rosa was the most amazing husband to his wife, Annette Delarosa, and daughters, Jeneca and Angelina. He was born in Santo Domingo and came to the United States as a baby with his adoptive parents Roselyn (Jose) De La Rosa and Patria Marin. He grew up entertaining the local kids in Jersey City with his constant wit and mischief. After graduating second in his class from St. Aloysius he went to Rutgers and Jersey City State College to become a computer programming genius. He took the financial industry by storm and it was never the same again. He rose through the ranks from printer pool to programmer at Chemical Bank in 1987 and ended up as the Senior Vice President at Citibank. He was far from the geeky socially awkward banker programmer you might typically think of. He was loud and crazy and brilliant and full of life. His work family were far more than just colleagues, they were partners in the most unlikely and legendary adventures. His surviving siblings, Evelyn Martinez, Tony Martinez, and Rafael “Froggy” Martinez all depended on him to show them how to shed their fears and do whatever crazy thing that would mean living life to the fullest, whether that meant a nudist beach in Jamaica, or rollerblading from the financial district to Washington Heights or clubbing all night long. He was brilliant in developing hypothetical scenarios about how to improve society or prepare for the demise of the need for humans in the workplace. On 9/11/2001 he saw his office building at 1 World Trade center as it was hit by an airplane, and he did his best to outrun the tragedy on his rollerblades. Skiing was his passion and every weekend throughout the winter he would be on the slopes at Killington with his wife and little girls who have mastered the Double Diamond runs as if they were born there. He was addicted to CNN, Reason.com and TedTalks because he needed to know and understand everything there was to know and what was happening. Roz was full of life, was always there for everyone and he will be truly missed. We will love you forever Rozzer. A celebration of Life will be held at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Tuesday July 5th from 2-5pm.
