Eileen was born in Totowa, NJ to Val and Rose Lindsay. She has one brother, Val J. Raised in New Jersey, Eileen attended Memorial Grammar School and St. Bonaventure’s High School in Paterson, NJ where she met the Franciscan Sisters. After graduating from high school in 1942, Eileen enrolled in Ladycliff College, Highland Falls, NY and graduated in 1946. Before entering the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart in Peekskill, NY in 1949, she taught at the high school level for two years. It was in 1951 that she professed her first vows. After earning her Master’s Degree in Biology from Fordham University, Sister Eileen served on the faculty of St. Joseph’s High School, West New York, NJ for three years before going to Ladycliff College as Professor of Biology. It was during that time that she became a doctoral student at St Bonaventure’s University in Olean, NY, earning a PhD. in Biology in 1965. Sister Eileen then returned to serve on the faculty of Ladycliff College for another six years. In 1971, she assumed the position as Principal of St. Joseph’s High School in West New York, NJ. for three years, supervising its transition to a coeducational facility and then was transferred to Franciscan High School, Mohegan Lake, NY where she became Chairperson of the Science department and also served as Assistant Principal until 1986. In 1986, with the establishment of the Franciscan Sisters of Peace, Sr. Eileen was one of the 112 founding members. It was then that she joined the faculty of Maria Regina High School in Hartsdale, NY as teacher and Chairperson of the Science Department. Throughout her ministry, Sister Eileen was engaged in teaching on the secondary and college levels. Thus, teaching was an integral part of her life, one that she was passionate about for many years. In addition to her teaching she has been Director of Tutoring Services at the Assisi Center; a volunteer for Birthright; member of Middle States Evaluation Committees; a member of the National Science Teachers Association; coordinator of High School “Mini Course” program; High School Home Room Teacher and related services. It was in 2007 that she retired from fulltime ministry but remained on the staff of Maria Regina High School in Hartsdale, NY as a Library Assistant, a ministry she thoroughly enjoyed. In 2011, Sister Eileen joined the retirement community at Marian Woods in Hartsdale. Since August she has been a resident of St. Cabrini Nursing Home, Dobbs Ferry. Sr. Eileen is survived by her brother, Valentine Lindsay and nieces. A wake service will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. All services will take place at Marian Woods Chapel in Hartsdale, NY. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Yonkers, NY.
