Sr. Joan Cunningham, F.S.P.

Sr. Joan Cunningham, F.S.P. (formerly Sr. Frances de Chantal) died on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at age 77. Born on October 16, 1935 to William J. and Frances Cunningham in New York City. She attended Cathedral High School and received her BA in Biology from Ladycliff College; her Masters in Nutrition from Hunter College. She entered into the Order of Religious Community on September 8, 1953 and took her final vows on July 11, 1960. Part of her assignments include, Teacher at St. Joseph School in West, New York, St. Columbanus in Peekskill; Assumption School and Our Lady Queen of Martyrs where she served as Principal. She also served as Food Service Supervisor and Dietician at Metropolitan Hospital in New York City. Sr. Joan is survived by her Mother; Frances Cunningham, her sister Arlene Hertel, both of Phoenix, Arizona. Visiting hours will be at the Marian Woods Convent on Tuesday, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, February 27th at 10:00 a.m. at Marian Woods. Interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Donations may be made to Franciscan Sisters of Peace, 20 Ridge Street, Haverstraw, New York 10927.
