Sr. Virginia Waters, F.S.P.

Sr. Virginia Waters, F.S.P. passed away on January 24, 2017 at age 81. She was born on October 22, 1935 to John and Virginia (Dean) Waters in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY where she was raised and attended St. Matthew’s Grammar School. She graduated from Hicksville, HS and was an undergraduate from Ladycliff College with a BA in Mathematics as well as Iona College with a Masters in Pastoral Counseling. Her date of Entrance into The Franciscan Sisters was September 8, 1953. First profession vows were July 11, 1955 and final vows were July 11, 1960. She was a teacher at Holy Family in Union City, NJ, St. Leo’s School, in Elmwood Park, NJ, Sacred Heart School in Highland Falls, Apolo, Bolivia – Missionary, a formation director at Mt. St. Francis, pastoral associate at St. Joseph’s Parish, West NY, and Prison Chaplin for Nassau Co. Sr. Virginia won the Franciscan Federation Peacemaker Award in 2006. Survivors include Jerome Waters, Mary Jane Graswald, Bernadette Waters and Celeste Igoe. Visiting hours will be at Marian Woods, Hartsdale, NY on Thursday from 3-7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday at 10am at Marian Woods Chapel. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
