He was born to Alex and Mary (nee Hrivnak) Pregon on September 15th, 1943 in Yonkers, NY. He was affectionately known as Butch and Steve. He graduated from Gorton High School where he was Co-Captain of the Gymnastics Team. He joined the Yonkers Fire Department in 1966 and served for 26 years. Steve had a contracting company in the Yonkers/Bronxville area for 25 years and was a Master Carpenter. Steve was married to Laurel Pregon (nee Deyo) for 56 years who survives him along with his daughters, Mary-Laurel Pregon-Book of Clearwater, FL, Tracey (Metin) Pregon-Balci of Tom’s River, NJ, Jennifer O’Halloran of Mount Pleasant, SC, Allison (Ultan) Kinahan of Milton, GA, his son Robert (Jeannie) Pregon of Riverdale, NY, and 8 grandchildren Alexander, Nicholas, Samantha, Joseph, Evin, Steven, Anna and Isabel. He is also survived by his brother Lawrence Pregon and his wife Maureen, his sister–in-law Grace Pregon and his cousin Cheryl (nee Brown) Rodriguez and family along with many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. Steve was predeceased by his parents, his son, Steven, his son-in-law, Edward O’Halloran and his older brother, Michael Pregon. Steve enjoyed telling a good joke or story, recounting his days on the Fire Department, loved 50’s music and going to the casino. He had a larger than life personality and made friends wherever he went. He fervently loved his family and was caring, strong, supportive and compassionate. Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Sunday 2-4 & 7-9pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Joseph’s Church, Bronxville on Monday December 16th at 10:45am. Final Disposition will be private.
