Theresa M. Honan

She was born on November 10,1928 in the Bronx to Mary J. and Michael Costello. She graduated from Cathedral High School in New York City in June of 1946. Theresa worked at the Maersk Shipping Lines Company in New York City for many years as the Director of Human Resources and retired in 1984. She married her loving husband, William J. Honan Jr. on September 17, 1976. Mr. Honan died on July 27, 2011. Theresa was a former resident of New York City, Quogue, NY, Garden City, NY and West Palm Beach, FL. After her husband Bill passed away, Theresa moved to Yonkers in 2012 where she enjoyed spending time with her sister Pat and her family. She served as a Eucharistic Minister at her parishes in Garden City and West Palm Beach, volunteered at the NY Children’s Foundling Hospital and she was a former member of the Garden City Country Club. She enjoyed playing golf, reading, traveling, listening to music and keeping up-to-date on world events. Theresa was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her siblings, Thomas, Joseph, Mary Costello and Patricia C. Wright. She is survived by her step children, Jane Guastella, Catherine Knuckles, Barbara Buffenbarger and Janet, William and Richard Honan and several step grandchildren. She was predeceased by a step daughter, Patricia Bidwell. Theresa was also a Beloved Aunt, Great Aunt and Great Great Aunt to her many nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Lori, Theresa’s primary caregiver. Lori provided unwavering care, comfort and dignity to Theresa for the last eight years in order that she remain living in her home.

Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Sunday 2-6pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Christ the King Church on Monday June 9th at 11am. Final disposition is private.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Tunnels to Towers in Theresa’s memory would be appreciated.
