Walter Kachmar a lifelong Yonkers resident, died suddenly Thursday, March 14th, 2013 at age 84. Born February 5th, 1929 to Peter and Catherine (Spak) in Yonkers. He graduated from Saunders Trades and Technical High School. He served in the army during the Korean Conflict, then attended Westchester Community College. He was employed by the Westchester County Public Works Department as a construction engineer for 35 years. Walter was the youngest and last survivor of 8 siblings: brothers John, Peter and William (his twin) and sisters Ann Kunney, Mary Werney, Eva Szyluk, and Irene Maurer. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Ann (Yurina) of Yonkers, daughters Mary of Yonkers and Debbie McDonnell, son-in-law Michael and adored granddaughters Jillian, Jenna and Jolie, all of Dobbs Ferry, and many nieces and nephews who will greatly miss him. Walter was a devout parishioner of St. Nicholas of Myra Church. He enjoyed golf, walking, game shows and the jumble, but mostly spending time with his beloved family. Visitation Sunday, March 17th at Whalen and Ball Funeral Home 168 Park Avenue Yonkers, from 2:00 to 6:00 pm, Panahida service at 4:00 pm. Divine Liturgy 10:30 am Monday, March 18th at St. Nicholas of Myra Byzantine Catholic Church, 768 North Street White Plains, New York. Interment Oakland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Nicholas of Myra Church.
