

Amelita Carlos Tiernan, a former registered nurse and longtime resident of Yorba Linda, Calif., peacefully passed away on June 24, 2025 at her home. Born on June 6, 1943 in Tarlac, Tarlac in the Philippines, Amy grew up in a large family with many brothers and sisters. Over the course of her long nursing career, Amy worked at several Southern California hospitals and medical services with her last position being an ICU nurse at Whittier Hospital. She enjoyed watercolors, working in her garden, and traveling with her husband Michael F. Tiernan to who she was married for more than 45 years. Pink was her favorite color, roses were her favorite flower, and pancit was her favorite meal.
Michael predeceased Amy in 2021. She is survived by several siblings, nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are being handled by McAulay and Wallace Mortuary in Fullerton, California. A Funeral Mass for Amy will be celebrated by Fr. James Podlesny,OSB, a Tiernan family cousin, on Friday, August 29, 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Shrine in Emmitsburg, MD. Following the Funeral Mass, Amy will be interred alongside her husband Michael at Mt. St. Mary’s Cemetery in Emmitsburg near the National Shrine Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes.
