Elaine was blessed with three loving children: Jan, Ann, and Tom; four amazing grandchildren: Chris, Erin, Ben, and Eric; three caring step-grandchildren: Cathy, David, and Kevin; seventeen wonderful great-grandchildren and two new great-great-grandchildren. She cherished her siblings: sister Thelma, brother Charles, and twin sister Evie; her parents, Ruth and Gene Smith; and her incredible nieces and nephews. She deeply loved all her family members, and she adored her countless friends.
Elaine loved being a nurse, especially being an ER nurse, and was very proud to be a director of nursing.
Elaine traveled to all fifty U.S. states (including fifty-seven trips to Hawaii) and twenty-five foreign countries – quite a remarkable feat considering her fear of flying! Jim and Elaine took countless long road trips as well. In their early years they would sometimes do tag-team driving for twenty-four hours straight with their three kids in tow. In their later years they would often drive cross-county to visit family in Washington state and Tennessee. Jim and Elaine traveled many times with their adult children and families, and enjoyed travel adventures with their dear friends.
Elaine had a great passion for hosting parties: family Christmas, 4th of July, birthdays, New Year’s Eve with neighbors, work parties, and church parties. You name it, she always stepped up to host.
Elaine was continuously active in the church – everything from teaching young children in Sunday school classes to helping Jim teach a class of seniors, as well as hosting home Bible studies.
Elaine loved to chat and to share her countless life stories to anyone willing (or not) to listen.
Elaine loved life to the fullest and stubbornly fought to keep going. She didn’t want to miss out on one second of the wonderful life God had blessed her with. Elaine would want to thank each and every one of you for making her life so special and blessed!
“Well done, good and faithful servant!”
Matthew 25:21
