John is survived by his wife of 67 years Colleen Joyce Cully (née Burns) and by their six children, Patricia, Barbara, Joyce, Kari, John III, and Jacqueline, as well as his seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, niece Cassie, and a large extended family spanning four generations. In recent years his sisters Marguerite Cully Clodfelter and Carol Nestor preceded him in death.
John was born on July 28, 1931 in Aberdeen, South Dakota to John Thomas Cully, Sr. and Thelma Virginia Cully (née Tarver). He graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1950 and married his high school sweetheart Colleen Burns in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and then settled in San Diego where he and Colleen raised their large family. John worked first for the Continental Baking Company for 14 years and then for Coldwell Banker as a successful real estate salesperson and broker. After he and Colleen retired to their dream home on the Pacific Ocean in Playa La Misión, Baja California, he established his own real estate sales company there—Casas by the Sea—through which he helped many clients and neighbors establish their own family homes on the Pacific. He will be remembered and cherished as a generous and loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, neighbor, and friend—a successful family man and businessman of many talents and good humor who enjoyed an energetic lifetime of love, faith, devoted work, and service to others.
His resting place will be at Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego.
