Known to everyone as Judy, our mother leaves her mark on this world by way of her three children: Marvin, Mark and Cathy, eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was born to proud, yet stoic good people, Elton and Mildred Matlock from Texarkana, Arkansas. She was one of 6 children, her family relocated to Phoenix, AZ at a young age. Our mother didn’t stay there, she moved to California in the late 60’s settling in La Puente, where she and her husband Phil raised their family until his passing. Mother was a staple in her community, living in her home for more than 50 years bonding with her neighbors and creating extended families that she loved dearly, and loved her back.
Judy or Mother, whoever she was to you, you know she was always there for you. You could count on her, she loved to help, gave whatever she had and never told stories. You knew you had better be ready for direct truth and honest answers or you knew not to ask her. She was the first person to call a spade a spade and always the first person to offer help. Always the hardest working woman around, fought for everyone. If you were in her circle of care, then you already miss her.
Mother spent over 20 years with the USPS creating bonds and touching lives that made strong friendships that lasted until her death these people were also her extended family. We are so grateful to everyone that she was able to share time with and who made efforts to be in her life especially after her retirement. Everyone who was fortunate to have known her can attest to her strength of will and character and her beautiful, sparkly blue eyes. We will miss her now and always, but we will not worry, because when we asked where she was going, she told us she was going to Heaven. She was as confident in that as she was in all things in her life. So, you can rest assured that she will be where she says she is.
