With hearts full of love and sorrow, we say good-bye to our beloved Mother and Omi, Katharina Lydia Luzzi, who joined our lord in heaven on the cold and cloudy morning of April 23rd at 11:00 AM in Yorba Linda. She passed at 82 years of age from complications of kidney failure. Katharina was born on March 10, 1939 in Munich, Germany, to Karl and Erna Ebersberger. Katharina endured the horrors of WWII, being separated from her parents, living in a bomb shelter for months and caring for her younger brother Karl as bombs exploded in and around her city. Katharina was one of the many civilian casualties of the war. Following the war, the family moved to Augsburg, Germany where their home was located next to a United States Army Base. It was there that she met a young Italian/American soldier named Alexander. Alexander said that as soon as he saw this beautiful German girl it was love at first sight. They met when Katharina was 15, then at 16 they were married in 1955. Katharina moved to a new Country to the City of Pico Rivera, California. Later moved to Whittier. Katharina’s mother-in-law, Caterina also lives with them. Family was very important and she grew close to Alexander’s large extended Italian/American family. She spoke English and Italian as well as her native German. Katharina was an excellent cook, able to prepare delicious Italian, German and American meals.
Katharina worked at many positions during her life including working at a soap company, at Sears and Roebuck in East Los Angeles, and at Bullocks in Fashion Square in La Habra. Her favorite job however, was being a mother and wife. Her pride and joy was “family”, and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were everything to her. Katharina and Alexander instilled in their children the importance of being good citizens and making good decisions. They were always there to listen and help anyone in the family that needed it. Family wasn’t the only thing, it was everything to our beloved parents.
Katharina and Alexander love to go out for dinner and dancing at the Phoenix Club in Anaheim and many trips to Las Vegas, where she loved playing the slots. They had a mountain home in the San Bernardino Mountains where they enjoyed dinners and get-togethers with many relatives from their large extended family. Katharina also enjoyed spending time at Southern California beaches and especially if it included lunch at her favorite restaurant, The Crab Cooker in Newport. We Know that Katharina and Alexander are once again singing and dancing together.
Katharina is survived by her loving children, Catharina (Bob) Sedita, Carlo (Antoinette) Luzzi and Joe (Sunshine) Luzzi, her grandchildren Robert Sedita (Jolene), Christina Sogi (Kenneth), Ryan, Mathew and Jordan Luzzi and Great-Grandchildren Olivia and Joseph Sedita and Bennett Sogi and baby to be Sogi.
The Family of Katharina Luzzi would especially like to express their gratitude to Katharina’s caregiver, Bernadette for the loving care she provided to their mother. Her care, love, compassion, and support were invaluable in helping us care for our mother. Additionally, her family would like to thank Cadence Hospice, especially Raquel, for her care and support during her year-long journey.
Katharina was proceeded in death by her parents, brother, beloved Mother-in-law Caterina and her beloved husband Alexander, whom she continued to grieve for until her final day.
Katharina is greatly loved and will be greatly missed by her family and all those who knew her.
