Brents “Bud” Travis Jr., 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, October 30th. Bud was born on November 3, 1931, in the small town of Rush Springs, Oklahoma to Brents Sr. and Nellie Travis. Bud was the youngest of six, having five older sisters.
In 1944, at 13yrs old, Bud began working in the oil fields with his dad assisting the Rough-Neckers in drilling oil wells. In 1949 Bud enlisted in the army and served in Korea in the 537 Quarter Master. When Bud was honorably discharged in 1952, his father had moved to Phoenix, AZ, so he settled there too. Soon after, he was hired by the Santa Fe Railroad as a brakeman where he worked until he retired.
Bud met Mary Lucille Bruce in church, and they were married in 1953. Bud and Mary had 3 boys in the coming years; Stephen Merle Travis was their firstborn, Darrell Lee Travis (deceased), and James Farley Travis. Bud shared his love for the outdoors with the family. Many good times while camping, fishing, and exploring in the mountains. In 1994, his wife Mary passed away after a long battle with cancer.
In 1996, Bud and Dorothy “Louise” Chapman were married and began their life together. Louise was the secretary at West Olive Church of Christ. Together they travelled the country and spent as much time as possible in their fifth-wheel trailer or summer home in the mountains.
Bud served as a member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) for over 50 years, serving Veterans in need. Bud was a devout Christian and served in his church for many years. His other interests included traveling, playing guitar, metal detecting, antique collecting, woodworking, and his love for trains, especially steam engines.
Bud is survived by his wonderful wife of 27 years, Louise Travis, his sons Steve Travis and Jim Travis, and daughter-in-law Stacia Travis. Bud has 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Family services will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, details will be shared with the family directly.
A Celebration of Bud’s Life will be held Saturday, December 9, 2023, 11:00 am at Church of Christ on West Olive 10935 W. Olive Ave. Peoria, AZ 85345.
