Horst lived the American dream, being a part owner of a successful ironworks business and a bicycle shop in a small town along the North Shore of Lake Michigan.
In 1985, a move to the desert of Arizona became imminent as their daughter, Heide and son already had moved there. Horst continued his entrepreneurial drive and worked in real estate until he finally retired at 84.
He is survived by his wife, Elsa, son, Roland, daughter, Heide and two grand children, Kelsey and Michael Gerchar.
