March 18, 1937 – July 13, 2025
Jerry Vickers, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2025, at the age of 88.
Born in Martin, Tennessee, Jerry was raised in Chicago before making his way to Phoenix in 1963, where he would spend the rest of his life. A proud truck driver by trade, Jerry found his freedom on the open road and provided for his family with the steady strength and determination that defined his character. He became a leg amputee at the age of 24, and persevered through all of life’s challenges to include making 94 parachute jumps in the late 60’s and early 70’s.
He had a deep appreciation for Native American art and culture, and spent years collecting turquoise jewelry, pottery, and artwork. He wore his signature cowboy hat with pride, and his style was as bold and genuine as the man himself.
Jerry was a devoted father. He is survived by his children Deborah, Tammy, Paul, Jerri Lynn, Tom, Virginia, John, and Roy (who preceded him in death in 2015). He was a loving brother to David and Patsy, and Bill (who proceeded him in death in 2022) the cherished patriarch of a sprawling family that includes more grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren than can be counted—but each one held a special place in his heart.
A graveside service will be held on August 8, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Resthaven Park Cemetery in Glendale, where friends and family will gather to honor and celebrate his remarkable life.
Jerry’s legacy lives on in the many lives he touched.
