John Henry Hassmann, 84, of Sun City, died peacefully on Monday, September 29, 2014. Before moving to Arizona seven years ago, John and his family had lived in Kinnelon, NJ; Laguna Hills, CA; and Osprey, FL. John and his beloved twin brother, Harry (predeceased), were born in Weehawken, NJ, to his tailor father Henry and his entrepreneur mother Hanny. John graduated from Purdue University in 1958 with a Masters degree in Chemical Engineering and was a member of Tau Beta Pi. In New Jersey John built his own plastics manufacturing business, Plastimatic, from the ground up and then sold it in 1981 and moved to California. But since John was a workaholic, he continued working as a consultant in the plastics industry into his 70s. John is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Penny (Minter) from Sun City, AZ, and his three daughters and their families, of whom he was so proud--Pierie O’Connor of Stow, MA; Kierie Brown from Peoria, AZ; and Dawn Hassmann of Los Angeles, CA. John’s six grandchildren brought him much happiness in his later years. The greatest joy of John’s life, aside from his family (and possibly betting on football), was traveling. John and Penny were able to travel extensively all over the globe, with John’s favorite trip being an African safari. A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Palms Eastern Mortuary, 7600 So. Eastern Ave. in Las Vegas, NV. If interested, donations may be made in his memory to the Children’s Hospital of Orange County, CA, or Southeastern Guide Dogs, Palmetto, FL. Condolences for the family may be left at www.advantagefunerals.com. Care entrusted to Advantage Golden Door Chapel, Youngtown, AZ.
