

Louis J. Joy, 89, passed away peacefully at home on April 26, 2015 with his wife by his side. Lou was born March 2, 1926 to Giuseppe and Rosa Gioia in Fredonia, NY, the 10th of 10 children. Lou served in the Army during the Korean Conflict as a Sergeant from 1950 to 1952. He met and married the love of his life, Bernice Learman, in 1953 and had 2 children, Debbie (Jerry Abrahamson) Joy and Mark (Janet) Joy. Bernice and Lou celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on August 8, 2013. Lou was an automotive repair business owner in Fredonia until his retirement to Glendale, Arizona in 1981 where he worked at Sine Hardware for several years. Both of his children and a few nephews and nieces also moved to Arizona so he was surrounded by family during his retirement years. Lou was a member of the American Legion and VFW and had a small handyman business in the Sun City area. He is survived by one brother, Frank Joy, Brocton, NY, as well as his wife, children and many nieces and nephews. As per his wishes, there will be no viewing or services. Cremation services are being arranged by Golden Door Chapel in Youngtown, AZ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Lou’s name be made to Halo Animal Rescue in Phoenix, AZ.
