

Paula Rivas Martinez, 94, passed away peacefully in her home on July 8, 2020. She was born March 2, 1926 to Librado and Rita Rivas in Sinton, Texas. She grew up surrounded by her siblings, Juan, Augustine, Alejandro, Domingo, Librado, Santos, Cruz, Meme, Carolina, and Lupe. She moved to Arizona as a teen and that’s where she met her husband, Pablo Martinez. They were married January 9, 1942 in Phoenix, Arizona. Together they had 13 children; Paul (Cheryl), John, Roy (Sally), Tony (Margie), Gilbert, Rudy (Becky), Baby Angel, Mary (Albert), Lilly, Lupe (Richard), Margie (Pete), Rosie (Felipe), and Angie.
Paula was a talented seamstress and loved to do embroidery. Whenever one went to visit her, they usually walked out with some kind of gift. One of her favorite past times was going to El Taquito to dance and hang out with her friends. She loved to cook, keep house and eat anything sweet. Throughout her life she worked in agriculture and at the local hospital. She would also mend, clean, and iron clothes for the field workers and the soldiers.
She is survived by 11 of her children, 35 grandchildren, 88 great-grandchildren, and 8 great great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Pablo and her sons Angel and Roy.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private service will be held on Monday July 20,2020.
She was a strong woman of faith and her strength and sense of humor will be missed but we know she’s enjoying a wonderful reunion with her loved ones in Heaven.
