Roberta M. Hoover (Bobbi to most of her friends) passed away quietly at the Sun Valley Lodge Care Center on January 26th. She was the wife of Howard Hoover, who predeceased her by nine years. They were married 59 years. Born in Peoria, IL, she was the daughter of the late Paul Milo and Marguerite Orr Helmick. She had several careers during her life, most notably as a teacher and missionary. She loved teaching her middle school students, and when the opportunity presented itself many years later she and Howard served as missionaries for the Presbyterian Church in Brazil. Wherever they lived theirs was always an open door with love, acceptance and understanding for all. She was a member of PEO and the Organization of University Women as well as an active member of women’s clubs in the various communities in which she lived. She was also an avid amateur thespian. A dedicated member of her church, she and Howard founded the Stephen Ministries in their Sun City congregation. She is survived by a daughter, Byeta, and a son, Paul, as well as three grandsons and a granddaughter. A Service of Resurrection will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Sun City at 11:00 on February 1, 2013. Memorial gifts may be contributed to the Stephen Ministry, First Presbyterian Church, 12225 N. 103rd Avenue, Sun City, AZ 85351-3501 or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
