

William E. Farrar of Sun City, AZ passed away peacefully on November 30, 2013. Bill was born to Helen and Emmons Farrar in Buffalo, NY on June 25, 1925. Bill was raised in Buffalo and during his high school years he enrolled at a technical high school and enjoyed playing football. He proudly served his country in the South Pacific during WW II in the United States Marine Corps. Bill graduated from Cornell University with a BA in Hotel-Restaurant Management in 1950. He spent many years at Maple Bluff Country Club in Madison, WI and Keewaydin Club in Naples, FL. He retired after working at the Keewaydin Club. This was his favorite job as he was responsible for piloting his guests on a ferry and carrying supplies across a small inlet. He had to earn a Coast Guard pilot’s license to do this. He was the manager of the island which included maintenance, restaurant management, ordering, and guest hospitality. Bill served in the Sun City Posse for 10 years He belonged to the Shriners and was a Mason. He was also a member of the United Church of Sun City. Bill is survived by three daughters - Sue Savidge, Pat Heaviland, and Judy Farrar; four grandchildren Chas and Lissa Heaviland , Garth and Christine Savidge; four great grandchildren Connor and Adelaide Heaviland and Jackson and Addison Savidge; and beloved nephews James and John Sumner. He was predeceased by his wife of 34 years Nan Farrar and in his later years his longtime companion Elizabeth Neubauer. He spent his last year at the Freedom Plaza Care Center where the wonderful staff came to love him and care for him as we all did. Bill and his quiet manner and playful smirk will be missed by them as well as his family, neighbors and friends.
