Bruce Clarey, 85, passed away on February 16, 2024. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on June 22, 1938. He was the third of four children born to Clifford and Ruth Clarey.
Bruce graduated from Monterey High School where he played football for the legendary Coach Albert. He spent four years in the Army before beginning his career as a truck driver. He retired in 2001.
Bruce is survived by his wife of 61 years, Theresa Clarey; their two children John (Janet) and Robert (Jane); foster son Dennis; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard and Daniel, and his sister, Judith.
Bruce loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. A great lover of the outdoors, he could often be found camping and fishing. He also enjoyed coaching baseball. He was very involved with the YMCA where he drove busloads of children on camping adventures, ran Christmas tree lots, and did community service as a member of the Y’s (wise) Men’s Club. In his retirement he could often be found in his garage/workshop making birdhouses and wooden boats. He touched many lives with his kindness and generosity and will forever be loved and missed.
A memorial for Bruce will be held on Saturday, March 16th, at the First Church of God in Yucaipa. His final resting place will be at the San Carlos Cemetery in Monterey, CA.
