Dad Charlie thank you for loving us as your children and thank you for loving our mom. You treated her like a queen. If you look up the word “love” there will be a picture of you and my mom. The love between you two was the most beautiful ever. Dad you will be truly missed by all the lives you have touched.
Rest now in peace. Love your daughter Kay

I have so many lovely memories of you, Grandpa Charlie. Watching Shirley Temple movies, Christmas Eves and visits from overseas at the house in Rubidoux, those great, big oranges fresh from your trees, painting woodworking pieces you made. We will miss you. 💜

I always remember my grandpa’s cheery laugh and smile. He always gave me such a big hug and made me feel so loved. He would always ask about my life and was always genuinely concerned if anything was wrong.
When I was in my Junior year of high school (Beaumont High School) he came to my history class and shared stories of his experience I’m WWII. I was so proud of him and loved bragging about him to my friends! He deserved to be bragged on!
My grandpa taught me resilience! He suffered horrible memories from WWII, survived multiple medical issues and lost his wife of 63 years...yet he remarried, traveled, lived life, and was known for being a godly, cheery man during the time I knew him. He was an example of how God can still bring joy and light after dark times.
I will always love my grandpa so much! I am so thankful he lived such a long life that was full! I am going to miss him greatly.

Grandpa Charlie~
How does one measure a life?
His life
Do you mark it by days, by years
By moments
Does it begin the instant he became
The years he grew
The months he lived on foreign land
Gun in hand
Youth turned man
Later to return home with hearts of purple
Do you measure the growth of love?
Family founded, children’s laughter
And years in that house that smelled of oranges
Do you mark the loss of his precious jewel,
His Ruby
His ache
His heart renewed by a stolen grapefruit and the smile that forgave the remorseful thief
Are more lines added as his legacy expanded
In the form of babes, grandchildren great
Do you forever remember the moment you entered another’s life?
My husband knew him during the Orange blossom years
Myself, just after
My children after the loss of his darling gem
Her namesake just before the end
How does one measure a life, at the last?
When moments intermingle with your own
Perhaps the measure is simply memories
And when shared, the measure has no end
*We will all miss you, Grandpa Charlie*
