Jannell was born on June 27, 1930 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Raymond Holder and Mary (Simpson) Young. She was the eldest of four children. For a time, she and her siblings were raised by their aunt on a farm in Oklahoma, however, most of her formative years were spent in Alton, Illinois. Marriage brought Jannell to California, where she lived in Whittier and raised her four children: Melvin, Deborah, Kathy, and Donna. She worked in data entry for twenty years, and upon retirement, Jannell worked for several years as a noon aid for the South Whittier School District. After selling their home in Whittier, she and her husband George moved to Moreno Valley. A few years after George’s death, Jannell moved to Yucaipa where she lived with her daughter, Donna, for ten years.
Traveling was a large part of Jannell’s retirement. She and her husband George would pack up their travel trailer and embark on journeys across Oregon and Washington states throughout the summer months. Jannell also enjoyed several crafting ventures such as sewing and embroidery, and she loved gardening, with the ability to make anything grow. Jannell was an amazing cook and baker and would host holiday meals much to the delight of her children and grandchildren. She cherished socializing and was known to read a plethora of romance novels, often exchanging bags-full of books with her adult children and relatives. Jannell and husband George were long-time members of Faith Lutheran Church in Whittier.
Jannell was preceded in death by her father, Raymond, and her mother, Mary, her twin brothers, Raymond and Laymond, sister Jane, husband George, grandson Craig, son Melvin, and daughter Kathy. She is survived by her daughters Deborah (Martin) McDonough, Donna (Paul) Parenteau, grandchildren Sheila (Omar) Uriarte, Jennifer McDonough (Marcus), Melissa (Donavan) Pelkey, and Jon Paul (Kim) Parenteau. Jannell is also survived by nine great-grandchildren.
Jannell will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, George, at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, California. Memories and condolences may be offered at https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/yucaipa-ca/jannell-stanford-10108253.
