Paul Vener passed away at Loma Linda University Hospital on May 11, 2021 at the age of 90. He is survived by his devoted wife of 39 years, Sharon Harvey, their son William Harvey (Sarasota, FL) and 5 grandchildren; Alex, Jarod, Preston, Marina and Kalyna and many nieces and nephews in CA, CT and NY.
Paul was born June 8, 1930 in Schenectady, NY. At 21 he joined the Army, serving with the Ordnance Corps in the Korean War, sadly coming out with TB with a year recovery in a VA Hospital. After his recovery, he was an Indian motorcycle enthusiast and once drove from Oklahoma to California on it. Then he graduated with high honors from General Electric's 4-Year program and became an engineer draftsman. He then worked at McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft Company (now Boeing), for 10 years, having the opportunity to work in the Apollo Spacecraft Program. He got his private pilot license, flew some but work often got in the way. Tinkering with anything mechanical was his niche; he started his own machine shop in his garage, building his own customer base until he moved it to a brick and mortar business. Because of his love of tinkering, he also joined the Riverside Live Steamers Club in 1969 and has been a current member since that time. He built his own Mogul steam engine locomotive and acquired another little engine called an "Invicta". He loved running the Invicta on weekends at the park, subsequently joining two other train clubs, Chula Vista Live Steamers and Southern California Live Steamers. Over the years he acquired different metal turning machinery and in 1972 incorporated his business, naming it Tru-Circle Machine, Inc.
He met the love of his life, Sharon, in 1982 and they just 'matched' from their first date, whereby he moved his machine shop business from Riverside to Redlands. Game lover he was; board, cards, bingo, you name it - he had it. He really enjoyed playing poker and keno in Laughlin, NV. He was a smart, intelligent man who never raised his voice, was loving, kind and loved life. And, he could fix anything-electrical, plumbing, there wasn't much he couldn't do. Paul and Sharon had electric scooters and would go to many 'events', Market Nights, Health Expos, L.A. Co. Fair, every year was a MUST; going 4 times a week for the run of the Fair. They were even known as "The Scooter Kids". He would wear his "hair hat" and make everyone laugh when he'd 'tip it' and reveal his bald head. He liked to make people smile.
He will be sorely missed by his family and all friends who knew him. Soar with the Angels, Paul.
Graveside Services will be held at Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery at 11:00 am on Monday, May 24th.
