Robert “Bob” David Liudahl passed away peacefully on September 25, 2025, in Yucaipa, California, at the age of 92.
Born on October 24, 1932, in Maddock, North Dakota, Bob grew up in Benson County. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force on March 5, 1953, embarking on a distinguished 20-year career. He retired honorably on August 31, 1973, with the rank of Master Sergeant.
Bob’s Air Force tenure included service as an engine mechanic and flight engineer, operating C-124 Globemaster and C-141 Starlifter aircraft. He logged thousands of flight hours across the globe, including missions in Korea and Vietnam, as well as assignments in Japan, Germany, and the Philippines. Notable among his service was participation in Operation Spiked Lieutenant in 1972, supporting logistics during the Vietnam War. He earned numerous accolades, including the Air Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Combat Readiness Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 9 Bronze Service Stars, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Longevity Service Award with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Air Crew Member Badge.
After retirement, Bob transitioned into real estate and ranching. He raised prized Arabian stallions and palominos on his
ranch in Highland, California, and managed rental properties with care. A devoted family man, he cherished providing for his loved ones.
Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janet Liudahl, and son, Robert Liudahl Jr. He is survived by his daughters, Shawna Hawkins and Michelle Peterson, as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren who continue his legacy.
Those who knew Bob will remember his discipline, strong work ethic, and deep love for family. He often shared his belief: “If you cheat, you’re only cheating yourself.”
A memorial service will be held at Riverside National Cemetery, with arrangements entrusted to Weaver Hughes Mortuary and Crematory.
A graveside service for Robert will be held Friday, October 10, 2025 from 10:45 AM to 11:15 AM at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Boulevard, March Air Reserve Base, CA 92518.
