Susan Hope Welsh, longtime resident of the Yucaipa-Calimesa area, died May 8, 2014 at the age of 63 of heart trouble in Hawaii, with her son Eric and her daughter Kimi by her side as she passed. Even in her last days her sense of humor and her personality shone through as she joked and conversed with her family while lying in her hospital bed.
Susan was born June 12, 1950 to Gene and Hope in San Pedro, CA. She moved to the Yucaipa-Calimesa area in 1964 and attended Yucaipa High School. In her early years, Susan worked at her mother’s restaurant where she met her later-to-be husband Paul. After getting married she spent some time as a homemaker and then went on to work for the CHP offices in Running Springs, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Banning. In her final career before retiring, she worked for Aging and Adult Services of San Bernardino County.
Susan enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and was an avid reader. She passed away in her favorite place to visit while on a family vacation. She was a strong woman, enduring multiple surgeries and surprising her doctors. Susan is survived by her brother Tony and sister Jeane, her son Eric and her daughter Kimi, and her two grandchildren, Callie and Cole. After she retired, her weekly joy was coming down to see and help watch her grandchildren who affectionately called her “Ma”. Even in her last years with declining health she was so giving of herself, and she will be fondly remembered and sorely missed. In hearing her talk about her faith in Jesus, we have hope that we will see her again in heaven.
A viewing and memorial service will be held Saturday, May 17 at 12:00pm at Weaver Hughes Mortuary, 33629 Yucaipa Blvd, Yucaipa, California 92399
