

Alberto served four years in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1958 and enjoyed his time in Germany during his military duty. He received his G.E.D, and then went into law enforcement training academy, numerous training to include laying the foundation for 9-1-1 in Yuma County and especially in Somerton, AZ. He worked for 27 years for the Somerton Police Department starting as a police officer, then rising through the ranks, becoming the Chief of Police. During his law enforcement career, he worked hard and diligently to fight the war on drugs. He had high work ethics and was a man of integrity. That reflected on his accomplishments, such as receiving numerous awards from local, state and federal agencies, to include letters from director of D.E.A and U.S. Marshal's Services. Alberto retired from the city of Somerton and worked as a police officer for Arizona Western College Police Department and part time with U.S. Marshals as Court Security Officer with over 39 years in law enforcement. Alberto finally decided to retire from law enforcement to enjoy having cook outs with family and friends. He loved to play in softball tournaments, camping and attending Arizona sporting events as well as watching them on T.V.
Alberto is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sarah of Somerton, AZ; sons, Albert, Ray, Henry, Patrick, Christopher and Gilbert; daughter, Michelle; sisters, Jennie Ruiz, Elizabeth Munoz, Rachael Rodriguez, and brother Danny Garcia; 22 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and numerous, nieces, nephews and cousins. Albert was fair and hardworking. He took pride in his family starting with helping raise his two younger siblings.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Maria De Jesus Garcia; father Meliton Garcia and son, Michael Garcia.
Viewing will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary on Monday, June 16, 2014 from 5pm to 9pm. Rosary to begin at 7pm. Mass will held at Immaculate Heart of Mary on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at 10am. Military honors at cemetery followed by cremation, Father Manuel Fragoso will be officiating.
Pallbearers will be Albert J. Garcia, Albert Garcia Jr., Patrick Garcia, Henry Garcia, Joseph Magaña, Gilbert Garcia, Christopher Garcia, Shawn Melton, Shane Melton and Jay Muñoz.
Honorary Pallbearers are Crespin Muñoz, Phillip Ruiz, Danny Garcia, Ray Garcia, and Marcos Rodriguez.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to charity of your choice in his name.
