He was born on July 14, 1926, in La Hacienda de la Luz, Zacatecas, to Aurelio and Dominga (Delgado) Vasquez.
In Alejandro's youth, he was an avid saxophone player, performing in concert venues and public events. He also performed serenades for his great love, Elpidia Silva Martinez, whom he married on July 11, 1949. He worked as a mailman in his hometown before being contracted by the Bracero Program and migrated to the U.S in the mid 50's. He worked in agriculture all throughout the Southwest. He finally settled in Somerton, AZ, where he worked for three generation of his employer, the Barkley family.
Alejandro was an active member and organizer of his local Catholic parishes throughout his lifetime. He realized his true calling to become an organizer and speaker for the Church, upon attending a class at Escuela de la Cruz in Mexicali. From 1986, he assisted his local parish, offering prenuptial classes at the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Somerton, AZ for about 16 years. From then onwards, he played an active role organizing events and giving lectures at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. He was an organizer for the annual Encuentro Matrimonial event and the Charismatic prayer group from 1979 to 2015. He volunteered as an Extraordinary Minister and brought the Eucharist to patients at the YRMC. He hosted the rosary prayer group in his home and gave lectures.
Alejandro's limited formal education never stopped him from conducting his own intellectual pursuits. He spent his free time reading and enjoyed learning about his favorite subjects: history, geography, and Catholic theology.
Alejandro is survived by his wife, Elpidia Vasquez; children, Sergio (Esperanza), Joel (Beatrice), Raul (Santos), Arturo (Gerry), Ricardo (Alma), Lourdes (Jose), Leticia (Javier), Olga and Sara; 24 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and sister, Maria de Jesus Turrubiates Vasquez. He is preceded by his son, Alejandro Vasquez Jr. and grand-son, Juan Pablo "Johnny" Vasquez, both of Tucson, AZ.
