I love you pops! I thank God you lived a full life, that is a beautiful thing!! Your memory lives on through all of your children and grandchildren, and your whole family and friends you shared that with, I give God thanks that at least I got to spend time with you as a kid, and growing up, it wasn’t how I’d like, but I’m content! You were a cool guy, and funny, and I miss that, we talk about the funny moments at home and joke about it still, lol man I miss you! It seems like yesterday, that you called me a day before your passing in the wee hours of the morning. You felt bad because it was 1:30 in the morning, and you did not want to disturb me, but you called me because you needed to tell me, how much you loved me and how happy you were to have a daughter like me. It was unusual for us to speak at that time, but I knew that it wasn’t a regular call, as you would call me every day. You spoke of my Mama and my brothers and my sister Gloria and expressed your love for them, especially for the love that you had for Mama always. It has been painful, I am missing you everyday. As you have expressed your love to me all the time, I always did the same. Our relationship was special, for you always let me know that. It has been hard without you, but also, there is a contentment and peace in my heart, knowing that you loved the Lord. Now you are with the loved one’s you always spoke of and you are sharing heaven and are in the presence of our Father God. You were my precious dad and there wasn’t anything that you wouldn’t do for me, as I would do for you. Some day we will all be together and rejoice in the presence of our Creator sharing and giving eternal love. I love you my dear dad, Rest In Peace. Give my mama a big hug and kiss for me and tell my beloved Joe, not to worry, because we will all enjoy and have the joy of eternal life someday. Amen.

Dear Grandpa, since your passing I have thought of you through this past year, and how you were so giving. Just a couple of months ago, I came across the gifts you had given to me through the years and one of my very favorites is the “Ladybug pencil sharpener that says “I ❤️ You”.  When the pencil sharpener is opened, the ladybug wiggles! 🐞I’ll always enjoy opening this gift and cherish it. Thank you for being such a loving & caring grandfather and for leaving so many good memories for me. May you Rest In Peace, 🙏

Dear Chando,
It was a pleasure to know you for the last 21 years.  When I met your granddaughter Anita and she introduced us I knew that you would be someone that I'd never forget.  You always treated me good and made feel comfortable and I appreciated that.  I enjoyed having a cold beer with you now and then while listening to your stories, it was a good time.  The pocket watch that you gave to me as a gift was very kind of you and I'll  always keep it safe. Our last conversation on the phone was in February and when I picked up the phone you said, "Castro"!, I laughed and said, "Yes, Grandpa Chando, it's me"!
The day Anita told me that you had passed away I was sad, but then I knew that you were in good hands.

To my Grandpa Alex,

I want to say that it was so "fun" to have you as a grandfather. In minutes you could make a conversation humorous and the neat thing about it was, that you were just being you (genuine) and who you were, but at the same time you enjoyed making us laugh. Many didn't know how much of a loving & caring grandfather you really were.  You gave so much happiness to your grandchildren, from making us laugh, telling us stories, to buying us treats.

Once in the summer when I was five years old, I was barefoot and had walked onto the hot sidewalk in front of your house on Humboldt, and the cement was so hot for my feet, I began to cry.  You then came running out from the back kitchen door and picked me up and took me inside the house. As my beautiful Grandma took over, I looked back at you as you sat back into your recliner chair, and at the age of five I thought, "My grandpa ran outside to help me, he really cares".  As I grew up your compliments & encouragement to me were always taken gratefully & with respect. Your gifts always warmed my heart and were always a surprise! 

This week my mother received your US Veteran Flag as an honorable keepsake - we were all very proud to see that you were honored by the US Armed Forces. Your service to our country was courageous & selfless and it will never be forgotten. Now that you are home with our Father God, may you rest in peace Grandpa and celebrate in eternity.

Dear Grandpa,
You are now resting in Heavenly Paradise with Our Lord, and also with Grandma, your children and my dad.

I remember the times that my sisters & I spent with you & grandma when you lived on Humboldt and lived at Santee Apartments, you were always happy to see us.  I remember the fig tree that you had in your front yard, you would pick figs for us and we would take some home, then sometimes you would take us to 7-11 to buy us a big Slurpee!  & then you always bought us ice cream when the ice cream truck came around. My sisters & I enjoyed spending nights with you & Grandma, you both were the best grandparents & you spoiled us!  On the 4th of July at Santee Apartments we were all so excited to see you & the boys light the fireworks, it was a lot of fun.  Grandpa, I'll never forget when you & Grandma came to my 8th grade graduation & graduation party, you & Grandma gave me a Bible as a gift, and I still have that Bible today and I will cherish it forever.

When I lived next door to my parents you would always visit my family & I. We laughed the whole time, and then when I would find out that you had driven all the way from Arizona to San Jose, I was amazed! You were headstrong and God gave you the strength & will to accomplish all that you did.  There are two things that touched my heart, and that was when you came to my first baby shower & brought a gift for me, and when you would pray for my dad before he went home with the Lord. I will always remember this.

Grandpa, God blessed you with a long life to share with our whole family & all those memories will stay in our hearts forever.

Grandpa, as your 1st born grandchild I am blessed that you were a part of my life. I sit here today and reflect back to one of my most vivid fondest memories of when you & Gramma lived on Humboldt st. In San Jose ( the big white house.) I remember Gramma standing in her kitchen with her beautiful black hair making fresh tortillas & beans ... Before we knew it you'd come outside and say to us " Who wants ice cream" .All us grandkids would jump into the back of your blue station wagon & we"d layout in the back laughing & giggling as you would drive off to Foster Freeze. I remember staring up at the stars and thinking how great life was. Through the years you grew older & during the time you stayed with my mom we shared time together, you loved my mom's home cooking any day , you made us laugh & sometimes worry but God always protected you. My final memories of you & our talks on the phone , your stories of your youth & meeting your 1st Love ( my Gramma  Cecelia) will forever be with me. This past May 17th 2021 I called  to wish you a Happy 96th Birthday , you were so happy I asked you how you were feeling & you replied by saying " I feel so good ... If I had wings I would fly! ... You made me cry. Grandpa your resiliency to overcome hardship will always be an inspiration  to me. You were always thanking God for your life & now you are with Our Lord! My heart breaks... I know Lily greeted you in heaven with open arms... As I sit here, I can't help but have flashbacks of my childhood. I remember when we would watch the American Bandstand on channel 20 every Saturday morning... I will never forget the amazing War stories you shared with me for hours. (I was always so intrigued. ) You showed me how to drive in your baby blue Cadillac. lol  I will always remember your sense of humor too. You would make us laugh at the silly things you would say. Thank you for serving our country and teaching me how to be a proud American! 🇺🇲 Last but not least, thank you for giving me 7 amazing brothers and sisters... 😥 You named almost all of them. They are my world. Thank you... Rest in heaven Chando.... 🪖🇺🇲❤️ You will always be missed.. Love your daughter Carina... 

Dad, I am grateful and thankful I got to spend time with you, I’m grateful that you got the opportunity to be with your grandsons Leo, Robert and Andrew. I am left with great memories of the time spent with you as a child, teen and adult. I cherish every moment, your jokes, and War World ll stories you shared with us, though at times I had rather played outside than to watch the History Channel for hours, I’m glad I chose to spend it with you. Our last moment was at my house eating your favorite “Vanilla Ice Cream” you asked for seconds, and I said “of course Dad” and your response was “thank you honey, I’m old at least let me enjoy my time here on earth with as much ice cream I want.” Dad, I know you had a good life, you were granted a long life, and not a lot of people get that opportunity, and I thank God He allowed you to be on earth for that long. I want you to know I understand, I get the circumstances now, and I’m sorry a lot of things weren’t fulfilled, but I love you very much and you are always in our hearts. 

We love you Dad, may you rest in Gods arms.
