Charles E. Cox

Charles Ernest “Bud” Cox, thirty-year resident of Yuma, AZ, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2021. Bud was born on June 7, 1931, in Merced, California to the late William E. and Johnie Helton Cox.
Bud joined the Air Force after high school graduation, serving for four years, stationed in Tripoli, Africa. On October 4, 1958, he married June Carol Heppner and together they had three children. He was a truck driver for various companies including Miles & Sons Trucking in Merced, California. He went to work for Merced County Road Department in 1969, retiring after 20 years. Bud was a Master Mason with Hornitos Lodge for 47 years. He was also a member of the Elks and Moose Lodges. He was an avid golfer, and also enjoyed fishing, camping, and traveling with his beloved wife June. They were on their way back to the West Coast from an across the country trip when they settled in Yuma in 1991. They were very active in their retirement years and made numerous life-long friends.
Sadly, Bud lost his wife June of 46 years in 2004 and his son Kelly John Cox in 2013. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Wilma Robinson and Juanita Bell.
Bud is survived by his son Kirby Cox, daughter-in-law, Renee, of Yuma, AZ, daughter, Carol Garrett, of Yuma, AZ, sister June Johnson, brother-in-law, Clarence Johnson, of Newark, CA, seven grandchildren, including his namesake, Charles “Charlie” Garrett, and seven great-grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews, and many special friends.
He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
