Dana Howard McGlothlin died Monday, June 29th while playing tennis at the Yuma Tennis Association. Dana passed away suddenly, without pain or discomfort. Born April 20, 1944 to Joe H.(Colonel Pete) and Sarah E.(Ditty) McGlothlin, Dana graduated from H.B. Stuart High School in Falls Church, Virginia and attended college at Shenandoah College, Shepard College and Northern Virginia Community College. After serving his country in the Air Force, Dana was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1970, and shortly thereafter married Lynn Zick, his high school sweetheart. Their daughter, Elizabeth (Beth) was born in 1971 and together Lynn and Dana remained committed to seeing Beth grow to the wonderful wife, mother, and person that she is today. Beth was also a proud graduate of 1.H.B. Stuart High School.
Dana worked in several industries in the Northern Virginia area, but found his calling in the Automobile Industry as a salesman. He was an active member of the Yuma Tennis Association, and looked forward to the competition and camaraderie of the group. Tennis matches, Thursday night poker night, with a Tuesday afternoon bowling league sandwiched in between filled his calendar, but that wasn't enough. When Dana came to Yuma in 2004, he worked for many years for several dealerships in town, but continued heart issues forced an early retirement. He chose to become active in the Laguna East Condominium Association, so much so that in the last 2 years served as its President, and for many years prior was the 'go to guy' to get things done around the Complex. You might find him walking Holly, his beloved Cocker Spaniel, after the heat of the day subsided. Whatever Dana was doing, it was invariably to help others, and not himself.
Dana is survived by his daughter; Beth (John) Walowac, his four grandchildren; Jacob, Sarah, Zachariah and Gabriella; His twin brother Don (Elin), and youngest brother Dick (Jill) . He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Michael Douglas (Doug).
A memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday, July 3, 2015 at Johnson Mortuary/Desert Lawn Memorial Park. Burial arrangements will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to the Humane Society of Yuma or a charity of your choice in Dana's memory.
