

Genevieve Chavez Doten joined our Lord on May 23, 2017 at her home in Yuma, AZ at the age of 93. She was born on August 2, 1923 in Prescott, AZ and was raised with three brothers and a sister. Genevieve graduated from Phoenix Union High School in 1941 and lived and worked in Phoenix.
It was on January 3, 1945 that she met her future husband to be, Hubert Alfred "Chili" Doten. He was going to serve in WWII and asked if she would write to him. Their courtship was done through correspondence and on his first day of leave, July 16, 1945, they were married. The war ended shortly thereafter and they settled in Yuma, AZ where they raised their five boys and one girl. Genevieve and Chili's beautiful marriage continued for 63 years until his death in 2008.
Genevieve enjoyed visiting with her children, grand-children, and great grand-daughters. She adored the outdoors and particularly the beach while spending time at their summer home in Ensenada. Genevieve loved traveling with her husband to Mexico and, in their twilight years, they traveled to Europe and highlighted their trip with a visit to Rome and The Vatican.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Julia Chavez; brothers Senon, Manuel, and Ysidro Chavez; and her husband Hubert Alfred "Chili" Doten. She is survived by her sister, Dolores (Chavez) Miller; her children and their spouses; George and Mary Doten of Phoenix, AZ; Kenny and Penny Doten of Yuma, AZ; Gene and Maria Doten of Yuma, AZ; Larry and Barbara Doten of Long Beach, CA; David and Julie Doten Borunda of La Mesa, CA; and Dennis and Connie Doten of Bakersfield, CA; 15 grand-children and 2 great grand-daughters.
A wake will be held at Johnson Mortuary on Friday, June 2, 2017 from 5pm to 8pm with rosary recited at 7pm. Mass will be at Immaculate Conception Church on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 10a.m., with burial following at Desert Lawn Memorial Park. Reception will follow at Studio 102, 102 3rd Street, Yuma, AZ. Pallbearers are Michelle (Doten) Gonzales, Alicia Doten, Nichole Doten, Jaclyn Borunda, Marissa Doten, and Alyssa Doten. Honorary Pallbearers are Chloé Doten and Jaidyn Gonzales.
