Harriet Sandra Miller

On December 17th, 2023, Harriet Sandra Miller passed away peacefully at her home in Yuma, Arizona. She was 80 years old. Those that knew her will miss her sharp sense of humor, kindness, and everlasting selflessness. She always put her family first.

Harriet was born in Brooklyn, New York and the youngest child of Mary and Julius Barkin. She grew up with her older brother, Kenneth Barkin, whom she loved and admired dearly in Saint John’s Place. Those that new Harriet, will also miss her thick New York accent, that was a trademark for her. She was very proud of her New York upbringing.

A little after Harriet finished high school, she decided to try new things and moved across the country to Los Angeles. Several years later she met her soon to be husband, Jack Leonard Miller. After getting married to Jack, who was in the military, the Millers lived in California, Iowa and Hawaii, before settling down in Yuma, Arizona. Harriet and Jack had two children, son Frank and daughter Melanie.

Through the years, Harriet was always the rock and cornerstone of The Miller Family. Once the family was settled in Yuma, Arizona, Harriet found her career job in civil service, while working at the Yuma Proving Grounds. Jack passed away in 1991.

Through the struggles of being a single mother, Harriet ALWAYS put her family first. Harriet made sure that her children, and eventually her grandchild whom she raised, Alexis Miller, always had what they needed and came first.

Later in life right through to her passing, Harriet had been thrown a variety of obstacles and challenges which she always tackled head on. She will be remembered as a loving and kind mother, devoted entirely to her family. She is survived by her son Frank Miller of Nashville, Tennessee, daughter Melanie Miller of Yuma, Arizona, and her granddaughter, Alexis Miller, of Yuma, Arizona.

A visitation for Harriet will be held Thursday, January 4, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Johnson Mortuary Chapel, 1415 S. First Avenue, Yuma, Arizona 85364, followed by a chapel service at 12:00 PM.
