Helen Margaret Hoffman

Helen Margaret Hoffman was born December 29, 1926, to Michael Hundagen and Julia Bellis in South Fayette, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. She was the youngest of seven children. Her father was a coal miner and her mother was a home maker who raised food in their garden and baked bread to sell to the neighbors. Her family was very poor, but so was everyone else. Helen loved to play softball and she ran everywhere she went. She was full of life and was spoiled by her mother and siblings. She completed high school and then attended some courses at a business college. She worked as a waitress at a neighborhood bar to put her brother through college. As a waitress, she got to do a lot of dancing with the men who came in. Once again she was the center of attention. When she walked into a room, her personality lit up the place. Helen met her future husband Albert Hoffman through her college going brother. He wanted her to marry a college man that was smart and could support her in the manner she had not yet become accustomed. Al and Helen were married on November 25, 1950 in 30 inches of snow in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania. No one came to their wedding and there was no honeymoon. The weather was too bad. She had $1000 and Al owed $1000. They figured they were starting out life even. Helen was the mother to a daughter (Karen) on April 13, 1954, and to a son (Keith) on May 23, 1957. As her family grew through the years, they moved to Arizona and California. In the mid 1960s, the family moved to Scottsdale. There she and Al remained, until Al's death at 91 on August 1, 2015, and her death at 89 on March 12, 2016. Helen leaves behind her son, Keith Hoffman and his wife, Vicki Hoffman, as well as her daughter, Karen Hoffman and her husband, Steve Briones. In the course of their lives, Helen and AL touched hundreds of peoples' lives. Forever different because she was loved by these two, one such person said, " A bright star went out with her passing."
