James "Jap" H. Fernandez, 80, passed away December 28, 2014 at Yuma Regional Medical Center. He was born April 22, 1934 in Yuma, AZ. James retired from civil service and was a U.S. Marine veteran. He received the following awards: Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Medal, and Arizona Hispanic Sports Hall of Fame 4th Edition 2009.
James is survived by his wife, Josephine Fernandez; children, Jimmy Fernandez and Steven Fernandez (Siriporn); grandchildren, Christopher Fernandez (fiancée Nicole Sanico); sisters, Cathy Fernandez and Cynthia Fernandez; brothers, Richard Fernandez and Donnie Fernandez. James was preceded in death by his father, Sebastian Fernandez; mother, Juanita Corea Fernandez; and sister, Lydia F. Caraway.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 11:00 a.m. at Funeraria del Angel, 795 W. 28th Street, Yuma, AZ. Arrangements are being handled by Funeraria del Angel, including private cremation.
