Joel Dwin Orton

Joel Dwin Orton passed away peacefully on September 1, 2025, just days before his 88th birthday. Born to goodly parents on a farm in Union, Oregon, Joel was the third of ten children. Growing up in a large family taught him the value of hard work, resilience, and loyalty—traits that defined his life.

His adventurous spirit led him to join the U.S. Army, proudly serving as part of the 82nd Airborne. A lover of speed and freedom, Joel had a lifelong passion for Harley Davidson motorcycles and fast cars. With gifted hands, he became a master craftsman in auto body repair and ran his own shop, where he restored life into damaged cars with skill and patience.

Joel’s sense of adventure carried him beyond the U.S. when he joined the Peace Corps, taking him to the San Blas Islands of Panama. There, he met the love of his life, Carmencita, with whom he built a family and shared 14 years among the Kuna Indians. Their traditions, language, and culture became a treasured part of who he was.

A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Joel found his Savior Jesus Christ and dedicated his life to following Him. He taught his children and grandchildren by example, leaving a legacy of faith, service, and devotion.

Joel is survived by his devoted wife, Carmen Elisa Orton, and their five daughters and nephew: Carlos, Laurice, Tamara, Jodell, Lyndee Ana, and Marnae. His greatest joy was found in his family, especially his 18 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, who were always close by his side.

Joel will be remembered for his adventurous heart, his skilled hands, his abiding faith, and the deep love he carried for his family and heritage.

Joel Dwin Orton falleció el 1 de septiembre de 2025, apenas unos días antes de cumplir 88 años. Nacido de buenos padres en una granja en Union, Oregón, Joel fue el tercero de diez hijos. Crecer en una familia numerosa le enseñó el valor del trabajo arduo, perseverancia y la lealtad—cualidades que definieron su vida.

Su espíritu aventurero lo llevó a unirse al Ejército de los Estados Unidos, sirviendo con orgullo en la División 82ª Aerotransportadora. Amante de la velocidad y de la libertad, Joel tuvo una gran pasión por las motocicletas Harley Davidson y los autos rápidos. Con manos talentosas, se convirtió en un maestro artesano en reparación de carrocerías y dirigió su propio taller, donde devolvía la vida a los autos dañados con habilidad y paciencia.

El sentido de aventura de Joel lo llevó más allá de los Estados Unidos cuando se unió al Cuerpo de Paz, llevándolo a las Islas de San Blas de Panamá, Guna Ayala. Allí conoció al amor de su vida, Carmencita, con quien formó una familia y compartió 14 años entre los indios Kuna. Sus tradiciones, su idioma y su cultura llegaron a ser una parte muy preciada de quien él era.

Como miembro fiel de La Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Últimos Días, Joel encontró a su Salvador Jesucristo y dedicó su vida a seguirlo. Enseñó a sus hijos y nietos con el ejemplo, dejando un legado de fe, servicio y devoción.

Joel deja atrás a su amada esposa, Carmen Elisa Orton, y a sus cinco hijas y sobrino: Carlos, Laurice, Tamara, Jodell, Lyndee Ana y Marnae. Su mayor alegría se encontraba en su familia, especialmente en sus 18 nietos y 3 bisnietos, quienes siempre estuvieron cerca de él.

Joel será recordado por su corazón aventurero, sus manos hábiles, su fe inquebrantable y el profundo amor que llevaba por su familia y su herencia.
