John graduated from Washington & Lee University with a BA in History. After graduation he entered the insurance field as a specialist in group medical, life and disability plans. John retired as Mid-Atlantic Regional Group Manager for Jefferson-Pilot Life Insurance Co.
While living in Washington, he became active as an officer of various genealogical societies including The General Society of Colonial Wars and The Sons of the American Revolution.
John retired in 1988 and moved to Yuma, was a member of the Elks Lodge # 476 and served as President of The Saguaro Foundation, President of YRMC Axillary and chairman of the Emergency Room Volunteers. He was also chairman of the Yuma County Advisory Board of the Western Arizona Council of Governments. John also served as a docent at Sanguinetti House Museum and several United Way allocation panels.
John is survived by his partner Richard Eric Emershaw and many friends.
At his request, there will be no memorial service. Johnson Mortuary is handing arrangements.
