John Anthony Contreras

Our loving son and brother, John Anthony Contreras, 53, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 19, 2013.

He was born September 16, 1960 in Yuma, Arizona and resided in Somerton, Arizona. He graduated in 1974 from OL Carlisle School in Somerton, Arizona. He was Valedictorian of Kofa High School in 1978. Johnny was active member of the community.

He worked with his father at Contreras Insurance Agency from 1978 until his father's passing in 2007. He assumed the family business in 2007. He was an usher and lector at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Somerton, Arizona. Interested in model airplanes since a young age, he was treasurer of the Yuma Aeromodelers Club.

Johnny is survived by his mother, Mary R. Contreras; his sister, Patricia Contreras (Ange); brothers, James Contreras (Catherine), Thomas Contreras, Bobby Contreras; sisters, Sandra Cartwright (George), Veronica Ziembowicz (Michael), Cathy Gomez (Victor); nieces and nephews, Victor Jr., Sierra, Cade, Brenden, Angela, and Daniel. He is preceded in death by his father, John V Contreras; grandparents, Joe & Esther Ruiz and Juan & Eloisa Anaya Contreras; brother, John Randall Contreras.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 24, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Funeraria del Angel located at 795 W 28th St, Yuma, 928-344-0000. Funeral mass will be held on Friday, October 25, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Somerton followed by burial at Desert Lawn Memorial Park. Reception to follow from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at American Legion Post 19, 2575 S. Virginia Drive, Yuma.

He will be truly missed by his family and friends!
